In this course we will make an organically-shaped asymmetrical basket that is perfect for harvesting in the garden, foraging in the woods or bringing a snack to a party. We will go over how to make a perfect round base with a 3X3 slath and pairing, followed by a rounded upsett method with 3 rod waling. There will be a choice of weaving patterns to make up the sides, a modified 4 rod wale to strengthen the top and a woven border to finish. A driftwood or greenwood handle will be incorporated across the top and students may want to bring in their own pieces of driftwood for a special touch (if bringing your own, it should be at least 15 inches long and thick enough to make a sturdy handle). While making your basket, we encourage creativity in exploring shape and color. This class will be team taught to ensure each student will get plenty of attention and instruction. Students in this course should have some experience in weaving baskets with willow.
